A student in Meadow Lake says she has high hopes for a career in the RCMP after taking a course designed to prepare her for the entrance exam.
Candace Durocher is one of 14 people enrolled in the Aboriginal Police Preparation Program offered through SIAST.
The course gives students who want a career in law enforcement a better understanding of what they need to get started in the field.
Durocher says she recently toured the RCMP depot in Regina, which she says was an eye-opening experience.
However, she notes not all of her classmates are going into the RCMP — some are headed elsewhere.
“There’s people going in different directions. There’s a few going into policing, there’s a few going into corrections, there’s a few going into the security guard area, and I think there’s one in the class going into the military.”
An instructor with the course says when students are done, they will have completed their first year in corrections.
The course started in January and ends in July.
