A five-member taskforce is being set up to help reduce crime in the Battlefords.

It has representatives of the city, school divisions, Corrections and Policing, and the Battlefords RCMP.  A fifth member will represent Social Services.

Over the summer, the group will come up with recommendations on how to create a crime reduction strategy. It will be similar to the HUB program in Prince Albert.

North Battleford Mayor Ian Hamilton says there are lots of details to iron out — such as identifying a dedicated space for the program and finding someone to spearhead the effort.

In September, representatives will go to Prince Albert to see first-hand how they deal with crime and related issues, such as poverty.

The steering committee will bring recommendations back to a larger 16-member group.
