An 18-year-old male from the Montreal Lake Cree Nation has been charged with second-degree murder.
Leo Jackson Smith is accused of fatally injuring 45-year-old Norman Stamp in the community.
Stamp was found lying on the side of a roadway in Montreal Lake on Saturday.
At the time, he was unconscious with head injuries.
RCMP spokesman Cpl. Rob King says they didn’t how seriously the man had been injured at the time:
“Yeah, well, at the time, the 45-year-old victim was found a few days ago, his injuries didn’t appear that severe — so it seemed like it was a simple assault case. The investigation was started and we brought in a few members from the GIS Unit from down south to assist with some interviews. Unfortunately, over the past few days, the condition of the victim worsened and he died from those injuries.”
The accused appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court today and is due back on Friday.
