Saskatchewan Environment says while no communities are being threatened by forest fires — smoke continues to be a problem.
Spokesman Brent Krayetski says this is particularly true in the La Ronge, Southend and Pelican Narrows areas.
Krayetski says atmospheric and wind conditions in those regions are perfect for forest fire smoke to linger.
He adds communities like Pelican Narrows and Sandy Bay have fires on either side of them — so residents are getting smoke no matter where the wind shifts.
Krayetski also indicates that, in the case of Pelican Narrows, it will be up to the weather, not fire crews, to finally put an end to the smoke — because some of the fires are simply being observed.
None of the fires burning in the province’s north are any closer than 10 kilometres away from a community.
