North Battleford Mayor Ian Hamilton is not happy his city is once again at the top of the crime severity index.
Statistics Canada says North Battleford has the highest crime rate among 239 cities with populations over 10,000 people.
But Hamilton says things are being done to reverse that trend.
For example, he says they now have five more police officers — and as a result, police are more visible:
“Visible presence in neighbourhoods is a strong deterrent to random acts of opportunity.”
The city is also planning to adopt a crime fighting model similar to Prince Albert.
Crime in that city went down almost 9% over the last few months.
