Since Saturday, a Moosomin First Nation youth has been in Toronto to compete in the Miss Teen Canada World pageant.
Today, Nikita Kahpeaysewat’s mom, Chuckie Nicotine, is flying to Toronto to support her.
Nicotine says she’s very proud of her daughter, just for getting this far:
“I can’t even describe how I feel. I’m very happy for her. This is a really good experience that she’ll cherish for the rest of her life.”
Nicotine says it was a big financial sacrifice to make the trip, adding she cleaned out her savings to go.
But she says it’s worth it to support her daughter.
Nicotine and her daughter raised $9,000 to get her to the pageant. Most of that money came from the Battlefords Tribal Council and SIGA.
The finals will be held this Saturday.
