Saskatchewan’s two northern MLAs will be doing a lot of legwork this summer gathering names for a petition aimed at blocking changes to Employment Insurance.

It is part of a national campaign launched this morning by Manitoba NDP MP Niki Ashton.

Her concern is how those changes will impact seasonal workers in northern communities in both Manitoba and Saskatchewan:

“I do believe that there is a case of a lack of information on the part of the government in terms of our northern reality — and certainly we would like to clear that up once we’re back in the fall with the help of so many people that can join the campaign.”

New Democrat MLAs Buckley Belanger and Doyle Vermette will spend the summer collecting names for the petition.
