The Battlefords Tribal Council is hoping construction can begin next spring on a First Nations heritage theme park.
The park will be located in North Battleford, next to the Gold Eagle Lodge.
Its goal will be to attract tourists from around the world.
It will feature the world’s tallest teepee, with live entertainment and IMAX programming.
Consultant Pat Woods says it will be an exciting place to be:
“For example, for 10 minutes you could be in the middle of a buffalo stampede, and then the next 10 minutes you could be in the midde of — coming at you from all directions — a traditional pow wow. That type of programming.”
Plans also call for a cultural pavillion that will house Aboriginal artifacts from local bands.
The tribal council also wants to build a bow-and-arrow-shaped pedestrian overpass over the highway.
Woods estimates the park will cost between $15 million and $16 million.
The BTC hopes to get funding from First Nations, plus the federal and provincial governments.
