SaskPower says it was a storm few of their workers will ever forget.

Vehicles stuck in mud and linemen working in water up to their waists is how officials describe the repair efforts that took place during last week’s storms.

In all, the Crown utility says 200,000 people were without power last week.

The first outage occurred Monday for 86,000 customers in Prince Albert, Meadow Lake, La Ronge, North Battleford, Cudworth and a few other locations.

The second one happened a day later and affected 85,000 customers on the east side of the province from Yorkton to Melville.

Eleven transmission lines had to be repaired, sending 500 workers and contractors out into the field.

SaskPower vice-president Mike Marsh says nearly everyone had their service restored by Saturday.

However, Marsh notes the power could still be out for anyone who was recently away from their property or just heading up to their cabin.

SaskPower says it plans to ramp up implementation of its so-called “smart meter” system around the province over the next three years.

Officials say the meters will allow workers to get more precise information about whose power is out when disaster occurs.
