It was anything but a routine delivery for a mother from the Sturgeon Lake First Nation over the weekend.
She went into labour early Saturday morning and was being rushed to hospital in Prince Albert — but the trip did not go as planned.
Paramedics began the trip with one patient, but completed it with two.
They had to pull over to the side of the road and take matters into their own hands because the baby would not wait.
Parkland Ambulance spokesman Lyle Karasiuk says this sort of thing happens about four times a year, and it is always a good feeling when everything turns out well.
This is the mom’s fifth child.
Both the mother and the new baby girl are doing fine.
