The grand opening of a new daycare facility was held on the Gordon First Nation yesterday.
Band councillor Donna Anderson-Blind says the new facility will double the amount of daycare space available on the reserve.
She says the whole idea is to make it easier for parents to work in the potash mines:
“We do have young moms, young dads, young couples. So we’re pushing that there is childcare here, we have a big childcare centre. So if you get a job, go out there — your children will have a place to come, a place to be, a safe place.”
The daycare was built with help from the ATCO Sustainable Communities company.
It’s not quite finished yet — but is expected to open in mid-September.
