One person is dead after he and four other people fell overboard when the boat they were in began to fill with water yesterday at Black Lake.
Stony Rapids RCMP say officers were in the community around 1:00 p.m. when they heard yelling coming from the shoreline.
They discovered someone performing CPR on an unconscious man, who was later pronounced dead at the local medical clinic.
Police say five people had left in a boat they weren’t familiar with and fell overboard when they ran into mechanical problems and started sinking a short distance from shore.
The 42-year-old victim couldn’t make it to safety and went under, but one of his companions swam back to pull him in and start resuscitation efforts.
The death is not considered suspicious, but Mounties say alcohol was a factor and no one on board the boat was wearing a life jacket.
