An energy project in Meadow Lake is garnering some national attention.

Today, Ottawa announced it is directing $499,000 dollars into a project spearheaded by the Meadow Lake Tribal Council.

The Meadow Lake Bioenergy Centre will run on bark, branches and sawdust provided to it by the NorSask sawmill.

It will then generate enough sustainable, biomass power for 30,000 homes.

The project will create 300 jobs over its two-year construction period, as well as 25 permanent positions.

The tribal council has also signed a 25-year purchase agreement with SaskPower.
