A 28-year-old Regina Metis woman was among the new recruits who took the oath of office to become members of the Regina Police Service today.
Samantha Geiger has wanted to be a police officer for as long as she can remember.
Hundreds of applicants applied, but only seven made the final cut.
Geiger says it is a dream come true:
“I worked hard to get here. Not only the long process of getting here, but my entire life I’ve worked hard to be here. It’s been a long time coming. I’ve waited for this day for a long time.”
It was a proud day for Geiger and her family, who were there to watch the ceremony.
She says her Metis background will serve her well on the force:
“It’s definitely something I’m proud of. I look forward to being a positive Metis role model, that’s for sure.”
Geiger is now off to 18 weeks of intense training before she gets her badge and becomes one of Regina’s 390 police officers.
