A Regina woman facing manslaughter charges in the death of a four-year-old girl was granted bail today.

Justice Murray Hinds says while the charge is extremely serious, there was no compelling reason to keep 35-year-old Tammy Lynn Goforth in custody.

The biological mother of the child broke down after hearing the judges ruling.

She says the justice system has failed her and her babies:

“I don’t know.  Like, I don’t deserve that she should be walking free in public.  It’s just not right.”

The four-year-old girl and her two-year-old sister were under the care of Goforth and 37-year-old Kevin Eric Goforth when they were both hospitalized on July 31st.

The older child died a couple of days later, but her sister has since recovered.

The couple looking after the children are facing charges of manslaughter and criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

Tammy Lynn Goforth was released on $1,000 bail and a number of conditions, including that she not contact her husband.

At one point during the proceedings , the judge cautioned the mother not to speak while he was speaking.

He also told the court there is a presumption of innocence until someone is proven guilty.

Tammy Lynn Goforth will be back in court August 28th.

Her husband will be in court tomorrow morning for what is expected to be a quick appearance.
