It doesn’t appear some much-needed funding for a grave marker project in the province will come from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Saskatchewan First Nations Veterans Association Grand Chief Ray Sanderson says some work has been done, but there are about 200 unmarked graves that need addressing.

The veterans are currently looking for money to complete the project.

He says recent cuts have also made it doubtful they’ll get the money they need from the Department of Veterans Affairs:

“They’re having quite a problem, as well — the federal cuts that are happening.  We’re looking at other agencies for funding.”

Sanderson says other Aboriginal veterans groups have also approached his organization for help on projects of their own.
