Saskatchewan’s Education minister says he is concerned about the lack of federal funding for First Nations schools.

Russ Marchuk has written a letter to the federal Aboriginal Affairs minister asking him to honour the government’s commitment to provide $275 million in new funding.

The money, which will be distributed over three years, was promised in the last federal budget.

First Nations in Saskatchewan are still waiting for their share.

Marchuk says the Saskatchewan government is pushing Ottawa on the issue:

“As you know, our Premier has talked with the Prime Minister previously on the same issue.  So, in our mind, we are actively pursuing mitigating this situation.”

The provincial New Democrats say the province is not doing enough to get the money moving.
