A Red Pheasant Cree Nation man says true reconciliation can’t happen until resources are fairly shared.
Ben Wuttunee testified during the Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings in North Battleford yesterday.
Wuttunee said Treaty 6 chiefs only agreed to share their land to the depth of a plow — and he argued the land below that depth was taken from them.
He said his grandfather told him chiefs only agreed to share the land, and nothing was said about the potash, diamonds and gold under the surface.
The commission was scheduled to hold hearings on the English River First Nation tomorrow and Friday — but TRC officials say they have been postponed because of a death in the community.
