A man who hopes to create a permanent homeless shelter in North Battleford is pretty frustrated.
Don Toovey runs the Reclaim Outreach Centre in the city.
He has been trying to set up a permanent homeless shelter in that building for months, but he says he keeps hitting roadblocks.
Toovey says all levels of government have to help out to make it happen:
“It’s got to be something that’s sustainable. And it can only be sustainable with all parties getting involved. That’s city, us, provincial, whatever it takes — like the other cities have got.”
Meanwhile, for the third straight year, the Battlefords Indian and Metis Friendship Centre is stepping in to fill the gap.
It is setting up a temporary homeless shelter that will run for at least three months, starting in November.
