A man who pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing death after an accident which killed his friend has been sentenced to 18 months in jail.
Lukas Nicolas of the Beardy’s Okemasis First Nation appeared in Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench today.
Nicolas was 20 years old in December 2010 when the vehicle he was driving rolled near Duck Lake.
His friend, 20-year-old Myles Cameron, was not wearing a seat belt and died in the crash.
Nicolas also received two years probation and a three-year driving ban after he serves his jail term.
Cameron was also from the Beardy’s Okemasis reserve and was a member of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s Yorkton Terriers at the time of his death.
