Prospective new workers were in Regina today to get a good look at what opportunities await them.
Some arrived by bus from nearby first nations to take part in the all nations job fair.
It featured dozens of employers and several learning institutions who set up booths and were taking applications at Evraz Place in Regina.
FSIN chief Perry Bellegarde took part in the official ribbon cutting. He says the event is about opportunity:
“And that to me is what this represents is getting more First Nations people educated and trained and building up those relationships and partnerships with existing businesses and industries to get them employed.”
Chamber C.E.O. John Hopkins says the all nations job fair is a major push to tap in to a large resource of new workers.
“The number one issue in the business community now, for some time now, is where is the workforce of today and tomorrow going to come from? This is part of the strategy to engage people that are here, particularly aboriginal people.”
The job fair was organized by the Regina chamber of commerce and the provincial government.
