A man who pleaded guilty to setting a fire in La Ronge that took the lives of three people is now charged with murder.

Twenty-two-year-old Blake David Norman appeared in a Prince Albert courtroom today on a charge of first-degree murder and attempted murder.

On September 15th, police were summoned to an assault at a residence in the city’s West Flat.

Two men were then rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

One of them, 18-year-old Dakota Nayneecassum of the Ahtahkakoop First Nation, later died.

A 23-year-old man from Edmonton, Kyle Goodrich, was previously charged on the same counts and is currently in remand.

Norman made headlines after he pleaded guilty to three counts of criminal negligence causing death — for his role in the 2009 fire at the Lakeview Apartments in La Ronge that claimed the lives of Justin Charles, Marsha McKenzie and their four month-old son Jeremy Charles.

He was later sentenced in the summer of 2011 to time served, along with two years probation.

This morning in court, the Crown said it was proceeding by indictment against Norman.

His next court appearance is on November 16th.
