A spokeswoman for an international volunteer group is offering reassurances they are closely monitoring the situation in Tanzania.
Marie-Noel Ouellet says the recent machete-attack on a 41 year-old Canadian woman is tragic.
The fatal attack happened last week and police have already made an arrest.
Ouellet says the incident also took place in a different part of the country than where two young women from Northern Saskatchewan are headed.
Chandra Gillis of Buffalo Narrows and Bonnie Masuskapoe of the Ahtahkakoop First Nation are both part of the 18-member Canada World Youth Team that left for Tanzania this week.
Ouellet says the team will be staying together as a group and are living with host families during their stay there.
She adds Canada World Youth is in close contact with the Canadian High Commission and a Tanzanian host organization as well:
“Particularly in this case in Tanzania we hope that people understand that we are keeping a close eye on what is going on and we are keeping our volunteers safe.”
She adds Canada World Youth also doesn’t send volunteers to any country that is deemed risky.
