For the first time in several years oilsands rights have been sold in a Crown land sale in Saskatchewan.
About $1 million dollars has been paid for two, 5-year permits on parcels of land just north of the Primrose Lake Air Weapons Range.
Ministry of Economy spokesman Paul Mahnic says it’s too early to say if any oilsands projects could actually be developed in the area.
The former Oilsands Quest property is located north of La Loche and currently controlled by Cenovus.
It is the only other area in the province being scrutinized for its oil sands potential.
The mayor of La Loche, Georgina Jolibois, recently confirmed an open dialogue with Cenovus is already underway.
