A 28-year-old woman from the Kawacatoose First Nation was trapped inside her car in extremely cold weather after being struck by a train at Punnichy early yesterday morning.

RCMP say the crash took place at 6:45 a.m. at the main crossing in Punnichy.

Emergency crews had to work through the frigid conditions as they extricated the woman from the wreckage.

She was eventually transported to hospital by a STARS helicopter.

The victim’s name is not being released.

Trains across the country on the CN line had to be delayed for nearly four hours as a result of the collision.

CN investigators and CN Police are working with the RCMP in conducting the investigation.
