Liberal leadership candidate Justin Trudeau was in Saskatchewan today.
The Liberal MP made stops in Saskatoon and Prince Albert and will travel to Yorkton tomorrow.
Speaking to reporters in Saskatoon, Trudeau says he is proud of how his party has stood behind the Idle No More movement and Liberals believe it is important to work with grassroots organizations.
“What we have to understand is although we have a government right now that sees the Idle No More movement as a problem, I think we Liberals see it as a tremendous opportunity,” he says. “An opportunity to draw in grass roots First Nations and Métis Nations from across the country and be part of a conversation of developing solutions.”
The son of former prime minister Pierre Trudeau says the Indian Act should be repealed but only in consultation with Aboriginal people and part of a gradual process.
He also says, as Liberal leader, he wants to practice a politics of inclusion as opposed to division which he believes the Conservatives are doing.
About 100 Liberal supporters attended the Saskatoon event and Trudeau was introduced by Regina MP Ralph Goodale who is backing his leadership bid.
