Saskatoon’s police chief says he wants to work with the Idle No More movement and not against it.
A number of rallies in support of First Nations rights have taken place in the city over the past number of weeks often attracting as many as five to six hundred people each.
Rallies have taken place in shopping malls, parks and on public streets.
Chief Clive Weighill says police are happy that in spite of the large numbers of people rallies have been attracting, all have been peaceful to date and he wants to keep it that way.
Saskatchewan Idle No More organizers say they have no intention of antagonizing the general public by pursuing more aggressive methods such as blockading roads, tactics that have been used in other provinces.
Idle No More events in Saskatoon have quieted down somewhat in the past few weeks but there are sure to be some more events on Jan. 28 when a national day of protest is planned.
