Embattled senator Patrick Brazeau has been kicked out of the Conservative caucus.
A senate caucus staffer confirmed the decision earlier today and Brazeau will now sit as an independent.
No official reason is being given by the Conservatives for Brazeau’s ouster but CBC is reporting he is in jail after an alleged domestic dispute this morning.
Charges have yet to be laid but if they are, Brazeau will likely appear in court tomorrow morning.
If he is convicted of a crime, he could be removed from the upper chamber.
The controversial senator is among those who have come under scrutiny recently for claiming to live outside of Ottawa and collecting a generous housing allowance.
The former head of the Congress of Aboriginal Peoples has been known to verbally spar with other First Nations leaders and been a vocal opponent of both the Idle No More movement and Attawapiskat First Nation Chief Theresa Spence’s hunger strike.
He also once took on Liberal MP Justin Trudeau in a charity boxing match and lost.
