A researcher for an aboriginal think-tank says it’s an exciting time for he and his colleagues.

Dr. Ryan Walker is the director of the Urban Aboriginal Knowledge Network’s prairie centre.

He says today’s launch of the organization’s new website is just one of the many projects they’re working on.

He says in Regina they’re working on a project involving aboriginal life-skills and a financial literacy-curriculum.

While in Winnipeg additional studies are underway on food security and sustainable student housing.

The knowledge network was originally created in 2007 but funding for projects in Manitoba and Saskatchewan began rolling in last year.

Walker says there are a lot of plans for the future.

“Those are just a few of the projects getting started,” he says. “We’ve got more projects under review now, as well, so in the next few weeks or a month we will see some new projects funded.”

The knowledge network is composed of university researchers, friendship centres and other groups that work with Aboriginal people.

The group’s new website is located at www.uakn.org
