The prairie director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation says it is time for the chief of the Standing Buffalo First Nation to resign.
Colin Craig says he is disgusted by the salary and expenses paid to the chief and band council.
An auditor’s report shows Chief Roger Redman was paid nearly $175,000 during the fiscal year that ended last March.
“It’s a pretty disgusting situation because I have talked to the grassroots first and I was told of how some kids in the community had tried to get support for education and they were told there was no money,” he says.
The auditor’s report also indicates the six members of the band council were paid anywhere from $115,000 to $152,000 thousand dollars a year, with the total tab for the band council at just under a million dollars for a year.
That is roughly twice what Regina city council and mayor get paid.
For his part, Chief Redman admits spending was too high but says measures have been taken to dramatically cut expenses.
