Sentencing for Poundmaker Chief Duane Antoine and seven others charged with Treaty Land Entitlement fraud has been postponed to Mar. 8.
Sentencing was supposed to be handed down Friday in North Battleford but new documents sent to the Crown and court have delayed the decision.
Judge Dan O’Hanlon adjourned sentencing to give defence lawyers time to read the documents and confer with their clients.
Some of the documents were described as political.
One was described as “inflammatory.”
Defence lawyer Ivan Frank asked O’Hanlon to excuse himself from the case in light of the documents but O’Hanlon declined.
The judge said he still feels he can deliver a “fit and proper sentence.
Last year, Antoine and the seven others pleaded guilty to the TLE fraud charges.
