The Hatchet Lake First Nation has signed a memorandum of understanding with two development companies.
This week the band sat down with Artic Construction and the Commonwealth Group about a proposal to complete an all-weather road link from the reserve to Hwy 905.
For years, residents have relied on a barge in the summer and an ice-road in the winter to get across the lake.
Hatchet Lake band manager Alex Maurice says they want to use the Commonwealth Group to access the monies needed to finish the road.
He says they’re expecting to get written assurance this week.
Maurice says they will also be approaching every mining group with stakes in northern Saskatchewan for help.
