Over 250 staff and students marched to the steps of the Aboriginal Affairs building in Prince Albert on Friday waving signs and chanting songs against the proposed First Nations education act.
The kids say they don’t like the way the proposed act is being formulated behind closed doors.
They also worry about the effects of other pending legislation that would affect their lands and resources.
Pauline Thatcher is a teacher from Black Lake.
She says the school is badly overcrowded with three Grade 1 classrooms and a lack of space for older students.
The protesters eventually occupied the building’s lobby where they used a bullhorn to relay their message to the workers inside.
After that they went for pizza and a long bus trip home to their respective reserves.
