The RCMP has laid second-degree murder charges against a man from Pelican Narrows.
Twenty-four-old Thurston Jack Thomas is accused of killing 39-year-old John James Ballantyne.
The incident happened on Saturday.
At the time, Thomas was taken to hospital in Flin Flon with serious injuries and he later died.
RCMP Corporal Rob King says the incident was initially reported as an accident that happened while the victim was traveling to a remote camp 30 kilometres west of Creighton but this was not the case
“It was reported as a snowmobile accident,” he says. “The investigation that followed determined it was not a snowmobile accident and that it was a homicide which is why the charge of second degree murder has been laid.”
RCMP say the charge was laid after an extensive investigation between themselves, the forensic identification section from The Pas and the Manitoba medical examiner.
Thomas is due in court in La Ronge tomorrow.
