Liberal and Conservative senators continued to spar in committee in Ottawa on Wednesday night over an act that will make it mandatory for all First Nations bands to post their financial information online.
Liberal Senator Lillian Dyck put forward a motion to withhold Bill C-27 arguing more consultation is needed with First Nations communities before the act moves forward.
Speaking in favour of the motion, Liberal Senator Larry Campbell says the Harper government has only consulted with a handful of First Nations groups that agree with the legislation and this is not truly representative.
The Conservatives hold a 7-5 majority on the Senate Standing Committee on Aboriginal Peoples and the motion was defeated.
