University of Saskatchewan officials were forced to weigh into the world of social media after racist comments against Aboriginal people appeared in an online forum for students.
Officials complained to the moderators of the Facebook page after the anonymous negative comments appeared in an online forum that encourages students to talk about their university experiences.
Students’ union president Max Fineday says he is satisfied with how the page’s administrators responded quickly to remove the comments and, overall, the online forum has provided a positive outlet for most students.
“From a students’ perspective, these are fun groups, they are funny groups, they are really popular and I don’t believe a few bad eggs should ruin it for everyone,” he says.
