The chief of the Onion Lake Cree Nation isn’t being choosy when he talks about resource development problems.

Wallace Fox says both provincial governments of Saskatchewan and Alberta are equally difficult to deal with.

He says the problem is resource-revenue sharing; specifically – neither province is willing to come to the table over the issue.

He adds Alberta is also trying to narrow down the effect of treaty rights within its borders:

“What I’m objecting to is they’re trying to define our treaty rights as only hunting, fishing and trapping for food, and putting it in a box, and of course our treaty rights are much, much greater than that.”

Onion Lake recently rejected the Alberta government’s draft proposal on land management and resource development.

He is calling on the provincial and federal governments to enter into tri-partite discussions with them.
