The Okiciyapi Partnership celebrated its tenth anniversary in Saskatoon schools on Thursday night.
Okiciyapi is an educational partnership between the Saskatoon Public School Board, Saskatoon Tribal Council and Central Urban Métis Federation Incorporated.
CUMFI President Shirley Isbister says the partnership has come a long way over the past ten years.
“If you look at all the programming going on now, the Aboriginal programming that’s going on in the schools with both First Nations and Métis students, that affects everyone — every child from every culture,” she says. “So it’s really quite amazing.”
The educational partnership stresses Indigenous and treaty knowledge as a key part of the curriculum in schools.
