The Saskatchewan Party’s Saskatoon Fairview M-L-A was in La Ronge yesterday as part of the province’s anti-bullying public consultation process.
As Legislative Secretary to the Education Minister, Jennifer Campeau is in charge of the initiative and will visit a total of eight communities.
Campeau says she expects to hear a variety of ideas from the widely differing gatherings — and in fact, she is already finding some unique situations as she visits the north:
“There are some underlying themes for each community so far, seeing different perspectives within the province. Definitely in the north, it is different as smaller communities tend to have more people who are related to each other.”
She adds that became apparent during a recent visit to Stony Rapids:
“We found that the group we were sitting with, the kids all were related somehow.”
Another consultation is being held today at the Painted Hand Casino in Yorkton.
Besides the public forums, individuals can also contribute their thoughts through an online forum, e-mail or regular mail.
Details are posted on the Saskatchewan Ministry of Education website located at http://www.education.gov.sk.ca/.
Campeau says the input received should benefit the government’s action plan, since members of the public can identify gaps in policy.
