A series of commissioned artworks honouring residential school survivors will be unveiled in Saskatoon today.

The artworks are a joint collaboration between the Saskatoon Tribal Council, University of Saskatchewan and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

One of the works that will be unveiled is the “New Child” by artist Kayla Prive.

She says in a release her art piece is intended to speak about the awakening that begins once the painful history of residential schools are realized and the resilient spirit of First Nations people recognized.

The artworks will be officially unveiled at the Gordon Snelgrove Gallery at the University of Saskatchewan at 4 p.m. this afternoon.
