A Saskatoon man has been charged after a conservation officer was struck and killed by a vehicle while trying to direct traffic after an accident on Hwy 11 on Friday night.

Saskatchewan environment conservation officer Justin Knackstedt, 23, was on his way to Blackstrap Provincial Park just prior to the accident.

Thirty-five-year-old Blaine Thomas Taypotat faces a number of charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, criminal negligence and impaired driving – all causing death.

Taypotat appeared in Saskatoon provincial court this morning and has been remanded in custody.

His next court appearance is on June 17.

A Saskatoon man faces a number of charges, including criminal negligence causing death, after a conservation officer was struck and killed by a vehicle on Friday night.

Twenty-three-year-old Justin Knackstedt, a conservation officer with Saskatchewan environment, was directing traffic on Hwy 11 after an accident when he was hit by another vehicle.

Knackstedt had been on his way to Blackstrap Provincial Park at the time of the accident.

Blaine Thomas Taypotat, 35, is also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, impaired driving and flight from a peace officer – all causing death.

Taypotat appeared in Saskatoon provincial court this morning and has been remanded in custody until June 17.
