Extra firefighting crews and equipment have been kept busy fighting forest fires in the province’s north.
A group of CL-215 water bombers was recently deployed to Stony Rapids along with the extra personnel and fire fighting helicopters.
Provincial Fire Control Manager Scott Wasylenchuk says a line of fires across the far north is leading to hazy conditions further south.
“At present we have several fires in the north around the Lake Athabasca area all the way to the eastern side of the province,” he says “With the northerly winds that is pushing the smoke from those scattered fires south and that is what we are experiencing right now.”
Wasylenchuk says fire hazards are listed as extreme in the far northern regions and anyone in that area should use caution.
