Hot weather in the far north has increased fire hazards for some communities.
Curtis Lee of Saskatchewan Environment says conditions around Uranium City and Fond du Lac are amongst the driest.
He says one fire they’re watching closely is located just south of the Fond du Lac River:
“It’s still quite a ways from the community but it is within the community zone,” he says. “So it’s within 20 kilometres of the community.”
He says ground crews are attacking the fire and they’re optimistic they’ll get it under control.
Lee says some air-tankers were recently called away to the Northwest Territories and the U.S. but in spite of this the department is still close to full strength.
