Saskatchewan Métis filmmaker Danis Goulet made history Thursday night at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Danis’ feature, Wakening, is the first independently produced short film to open the festival.
Wakening will debuted prior to the opening film, The Fifth Estate.
Her short vignette is a post-apocalyptic tale with an Aboriginal twist set in Toronto’s Winter Garden Theatre.
The Toronto International Film Festival is in its thirty-eighth year.
Danis Goulet is the daughter of former Cumberland NDP MLA Keith Goulet.
