Marie Black has been elected as the new chief of the English River First Nation.
It is believed to be the first time band members have chosen a woman to be chief.
She replaces Alfred Dawatsare, who had served in the position since 2011.
The vote was held on Friday and Black received 247 votes.
Finishing second was Cheryl Maurice, who received 86 votes — while Michael Wolverine was third with 41.
A total of 21 people were in the running for five council position.
The successful candidates for council were Gloria Apesis, Russell Black, Angie Campbell, Archie Campbell and Bernadette Eaglechild.
