A meeting of the minds took place in Prince Albert yesterday.

Opposition leaders sat down to talk with chiefs from the Prince Albert Grand Council, members of the Indian/Metis Friendship Centre and local metis leaders.

NDP Aboriginal Affairs critic Jean Crowder was joined by provincial NDP leader Cam Broten and other members.

Broten says the meeting was good and he heard a lot of concerns about education:

“Speaking with teachers and a number of other people, they talked about large class-room sizes and how there aren’t enough resources in the classroom to ensure that our kids have the tools that they need for success.”

Broten feels more money should be allocated for hiring so the teacher-to-student ratio can be improved.

For her part Crowder says she’s not surprised the U.N.envoy for Indigenous Rights raised concerns about the plight of living conditions for First Nations.

She hopes James Anaya’s report will spark real change.
