Regina police have been cleared of any wrong-doing in the shooting death of a dog in the backyard of a north central Regina home last March.

An officer was investigating an assault in the area when he encountered Peter Cote’s pit bull.

When the dog ran toward the officer he opened fire.

The public complaints commission reviewed the incident and ruled the officer acted within his authority.

Cote says his fight for justice is far from over.

He  says he can’t just put this behind him.

“You know everyone says ‘well it was just a dog’ but it’s the trauma of what took place too.  it feels different living at home here.  My best buddy is gone in the yard so I’m working alone all the time and the whole outcome seems tainted.”

The public complaints commission also cleared Saskatoon police of any wrongdoing in a complaint filed by a 19 year old man.

He claims he was driven out of the city limits last January and was left to walk back in minus 30 degree weather.

The commission says the man was extremely drunk at the time,  his recollection of events was fuzzy,  and evidence from police showed there were no cruises outside the city limits that night.
