RCMP are investigating an accident at a northern mine.
Emergency crews were called to the Roy Lloyd mine, located north of La Ronge on Saturday.
Sergeant Craig Cleary says a miner was trapped after the ground he was standing on gave way:
“From what I understand he was trapped when the ground underneath him collapsed. They had done some blasting in the mine there which creates some sort of funnel underneath the ground. I guess the authorities there think there was a crust on the top which he stepped through and sunk through.”
He says the miner, a 58 year-old man, is expected to recover.
No one from Golden Band resources has been available for comment.
Cleary says the RCMP will keep investigating until they determine there is no criminal involvement or negligence in the case.
