A jury at the corner’s inquest into the 2010 death of 19-year-old of Brandon Daniels ruled his death as accidental on Friday.

The Aboriginal man died of an overdose of Tylenol pills while in Sakatoon police cells on July 3, 2010.

He had been arrested the previous night after being found vomiting and in a semi-conscious state in public.

The six-person jury also made a number of recommendations including increased training in drug recognition training for officers, better communications between police and the missing persons division and the expansion of hours a paramedic is on duty at the Saskatoon detention centre to 24-hours per day.

The week-long inquest heard police made a number of mistakes in how Daniels was handled including assuming he was intoxicated and failing to ensure the teen received proper medical attention.
