Regina police say there is no truth to rumours about a serial killer targeting Aboriginal women in Regina.

Rumours started flying Monday after someone posted the information on Facebook, saying police were withholding information until after Grey Cup.

Police also responded on its own Facebook website stating point blank the rumours are false and they would immediately release information if there were any such threat.

RPS says there have been ongoing discussions with First Nations groups about missing and murdered Aboriginal women.

Earlier this month, a day of healing was held after a recent wave of violence in north central Regina.

Two women died – one in a street fight with another woman and the other as the result of a drug overdose.

Police are also investigating two unsolved murder cases involving Aboriginal women – one from 2005 and the other from this year.

Since 2007, there have also been three cases of missing Aboriginal women.

RPS says in all three cases substance abuse and addictions are involved making victims more vulnerable.

They say they have no other evidence.
